Physical Description

Steel framed building with an exterior of stone, brick and terra cotta in a Colonial Revival / Georgian Revival style occupying an entire city block.

History

  • Original location of the Buffalo State Normal School, which was later demolished for the current building
  • 1913 - Originally constructed as the home to Buffalo State College, then known as Buffalo Teacher's School.
    • Designed by architect H. W. Hoefer
  • 1931 - Grover Cleveland High School was formed
  • 1959 - The building was renovated with an addition was build onto the northern end of the school that contained classrooms, a swimming pool, and a new gymnasium.
  • 1970's - Grover was designated as the school to serve foreign language-speaking students within the City of Buffalo.

Recent Events and Actions Taken

  • 2007 - It was announced that Grover's academic program would be phased out until the school was closed for good in 2011.
  • 2007-2011 - The building was used for the International Preparatory School, a school-within-a-school at Grover.
  • 2013 - The building is being renovated. International Preparatory or Leonardo da Vinci High School may use the building upon its completion.
