  • Large industrial facility, adjacent to Niagara Falls Airport. The front building or section is built in Art Moderne style. Yellow brick.
  • It includes a penthouse with lots of windows, an observation room, known as "The Birds' Nest".

  • It appears to be in good condition.

History

  • This was Bell Aircraft/Aerosystems main plant.
  • While Bell was headquartered in this building, many other notable aviation and aerospace developments occurred in the Buffalo/Niagara Falls area, such as the P-39 Airacobra, P-63 Kingcobra, 47B helicopter, the P-59 Airacomet (the first American jet plane) and the X-1 jet, first airplane to break the sound barrier.

  • 1940: "Bell Aircraft moves into a brand-new plant that the federal government helps finance for them in Niagara Falls, the Wheatfield plant. Bell employs 32,022 by the end of the year."

  • Demolition may have begun on March 10, 2025.
  • "The building in question is located roadside at 2221 Niagara Falls Blvd. in front of other buildings making up the current Wheatfield Business Park. It has been vacant since 1996, previously housing engineer work when operating as part of Bell Aircraft."
  • The Town of Wheatfield has wanted to use RestoreNY funds to demolish some part of this complex, possibly the front buildings facing Niagara Falls Blvd.
