Recent Events and Actions Taken
- January 5, 2025: The building is heavily damaged by fire.
- Preservation Buffalo Niagara worked with Mayor Scanlon, structural engineers and the building owner to develop a stabilization plan. This plan proposed spending around $150,000 to stabilize the walls and make them safer. The funds would come from the City of Buffalo, to be reimbursed later by the owner.
- One challenge is that as is, the building's walls are in danger of collapsing, particularly if there's a heavy wind.
- The building owner, Kim Rossi, decided against the stabilization plan.
- Mayor Scanlon announced the building will be demolished, under the City's emergency demolition process, on Wednesday January 8.
