Physical Description

Two-story steel-frame mixed-use building with curved concrete facade featuring Italian Renaissance influence. Decorative elements on cornice. Roof contains several skylights. Attached indoor auto garage is original to structure.

Current Condition

In use as retail space and apartments.

History

  • Constructed circa 1915 for commercial use on site of a residential structure at 55 Allen Street.
  • Structure is listed as "The Franklin Building" in 1925 Buffalo Sanborn map.
  • Building changes hands several times throughout 20th century; owners include Benderson Development and 45 Allen Street Corp.
  • Clover Management purchases structure in 1997
  • Added to National Historic Registry in 2012 NYS CRIS

Recent Events and Actions Taken

  • March 2018 - 'Clover Management is converting the second floor of 45 Allen Street into apartments. The space to be converted was previously occupied by the Buffalo Philharmonic’s offices.' Buffalo Rising
  • August 2022 - Facade/cornice collapse on Franklin Street side.
