Other Pertinent Facts
- No address number on building, part of two parcels with four total houses owned by BNMC. The parcel numbers, 927 and 937, both represent houses that were previously demolished.
- 2016 - According to CRIS (NYS Parks Cultural Resource Information System), a 2014 Phase 1A & 1B Cultural Resource Survey (USN 02940.027966) by Kerry Traynor for the proposed Washington-Ellicott Streets Residential Historic District was deemed state and national register (SR/NR) eligible by James Finelli in 2016 under criteria C ("Embodies the distinctive characteristics of a type, period or method of construction; or represents the work of a master; or possess high artistic values; or represents a significant and distinguishable entity whose component may lack individual distinction"):
- "An extremely rare collection of intact late 19th century residences in a neighborhood that was historically residential. The proposed district consists of eight (8) residential buildings constructed between ca. 1879 and ca. 1894 on Washington and Ellicott Streets between Carlton Street to the south and High Street to the north. Individually the properties retain a high level of integrity, and are excellent examples of late 19th century residential architecture. Despite the change in surrounding context from what historically were residential streets, the buildings in the district retain sufficient integrity of materials and design to allow for an understanding of original use and function, and to evoke a sense of the period and context they embodies. The buildings in the proposed district are the only extant historic residential buildings remaining east of Main Street, and west of Michigan Avenue, and are therefore a significant and rare resource that embody the historic character of this once residential neighborhood."
- PRS Editor's note: The approved survey offers conflicting date ranges for the houses, as well as incorrect addresses for the remaining structures, citing them as 927, 929, 933, and 937, which are all wrong. This mistake has not been made on our pages.
