Current Condition
- In good condition and still in use.
- The club is still in use as a venue and social club and a small collection of the heritage is displayed in its museum.
History
- The building was erected sometime around 1890
- The name on top of the building is "Zifle's"
- On May 13, 1935 it was officially incorporated by local African-American musicians as a place to socialize, practice, and perform.
- The Club's original members were musicians who had unionized as Buffalo Musicians Local 533 in 1917, separate from the all-white American Federation of Musicians Local 43, which was segregated at the time.
- The Club is full of history and many famous artists have performed there including Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie, Art Blakey, Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald.
Recent Events and Actions Taken
- Designated a local landmark on September 13, 1979.
- Listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 28, 2018.
